Search Engine Optimization (SEO) plays an important role in helping potential customers find your product when they query an items in a search engine like Google, Yahoo! or Bing. Many channels also use SEO when customers are searching for items on their websites. In order to maximize the success our items have, there are a few things we can do:
- Item Images:
- Item images are pivotal to the success of a listing. Consumers are more likely to buy an item that has more images because they have a better opportunity to look at it from different angles. Make sure to include as many item images from different angles as possible, but make sure they conform to the standards laid out in the image guidelines article.
- Product Name:
- Make the product name 50-75 characters in length for the best readability and SEO results. If the name is too short, it is likely not enough information for the consumer; too long and they won’t want to waste their time reading it.
- Create a unique, specific product name that isn’t used word for word on other websites.
- Follow the guideline: Brand + Clothing Size Group (if applicable) + Defining Quality + Item Name + Style (if applicable) + Pack Count
- If the color of the item is something that consumers will search for, include it in the name.
- Key Features (Highlights):
- Include 3-10 of the most important benefits and features of your item.
- Include keywords in the key features.
- Put the most important features first.
- Call out specific details about the product and provide complete information. Don’t repeat what the item is or include generic information.
- Description:
- Include the Product Name, Brand, keywords describing the item’s features and benefits and related words that customers are likely to search for.
- The more descriptive, the better, since this is what consumers will be reading when contemplating a purchase!
- Ensure your description is unique and is truly useful for customers. Avoid too much repetition.
- Write a specific and informative description, not something that is just fluffy and generic. Show expertise with facts and tips.
- Be clear and conversational, you’re helping consumers make an informed decision, not trying to sell them on anything.
- ASIN Linking:
- ASIN linking has been shown to be extremely helpful to the success of an item on Amazon. ASIN linking is the process of manually linking your item with a well established or high sales ranked item so that more consumers have the opportunity to see it.
